World of Zoo San Diego

World of Zoo San Diego

To my fellow animal lovers! I bring to you a post from San Diego, CA.

At this zoo, they have over 3,000 animals! We spent ALL day there and still missed some!

Their Koala’s are just too pampered, so happy and fluffy… Turns out koalas are very picky eaters, and will only eat certain types of eucalyptus leaves.

The Meerkats are on the lookout for any predators, this one kept darting it’s head back and forth at every bird and plane! A meerkat family will use about 5 burrows at a time, each being roughly 5 meters long.

The koalas weren’t the only sleepy ones, this lion was so tired that his tongue was sticking out! Reminds me of our cat Sadi…she’s always laying around with her tongue sticking out.

The polar bears were happy and sleepy too, I think we hit them all at siesta time!

All of the enclosures were HUGE and very clean. San Diego knows how to do a zoo.

They’ve got a sun bear… Look at those claws! They need them too, being the smallest bears around.

This little arctic fox has a little limp due to a surgery. And the zoo tells you that! They put a sign up telling why an animal has an injury so you don’t worry.

Animals aren’t the only thing they have, Look at this flower! They’ve got flowers and interesting plants all over the place!

They have Capybara in with the Llamas. Most of the exhibits have a sign showing you how big the animals used to be or how they have evolved. Like the one in the right picture! It’s not the same species but it’s their cousin from North America (which turn out to be extinct), and they were much bigger than they are now.

The tiger was just laying there looking around. I think he was too comfortable to move.  A tiger’s roar can be heard up to three kilometers away!

And then there was the hippo. While we were there we learned that hippos don’t actually swim, but walk. And all this time I thought they swam!

Elephants are super smart. The zookeepers put up contraptions with treats, and it didn’t take long for the elephants to learn how it works! Once one elephant got it, the others watched and found out.

Now the giraffes are something else. Let’s just say after watching them for a little, I will never let one lick my hand…

I think these flowers are called Paradise Birds and they look so neat! Almost like a bird…

They have a neat Skyfari. While you can’t really see any of the animals while you’re on it, it is a really nice view. It runs real smoothly. The San Diego Zoo has actually been open for over 100 years! It opened in 1916!

I have never been to  a zoo that has a Serval in it. At first I thought it was an ocelot but after getting a closer look I realized I was wrong. Servals are very successful hunters, catching fifty percent of their prey. Other big cats only catch about ten percent!

The flamingos were very pretty, and the smell wasn’t as bad as it was at other zoos!

This little magpie is a talkative bird! It would fly around and say hi to us!

This is the Secretary bird, I couldn’t help but think of Fawkes the phoenix on Harry Potter.

They had a peacock roaming around and yelling at people, I am pretty sure this one was trying to fight the tour bus they have. It looked right at the bus and yelled at it.

They raise their cheetahs with some big dogs, I think it’s really nice. The reasoning behind it is pretty interesting. A zoologist found that dogs have a calming effect on cheetahs, and since this cheetah is an ambassador animal (goes to offsite events for demonstrations and what not) then she’ll need all the calmness she can get!

Now before we go any further, I must warn you, you are about to see awesomeness. You have been warned.

It’s time for the best part of the zoo. THE PANDAS!!! They have a nice enclosure for the pandas, but if you want to see them get there early, the line gets pretty long. Make sure you grab a map at the front too, you’re going to need it. While they do have red pandas, we couldn’t find them. They are masters of stealth! I am bummed about not being able to see the red pandas but we saw the giant pandas!!

Well this zoo definitely deserves 5 stars, it’s so clean and big. I didn’t see a single animal that wasn’t happy and healthy! Well done San Diego, you made it to the top 5 zoos on my list.

See y’all at the zoo!!

Pizza Roundup Woodstock Pizza

Pizza Roundup Woodstock Pizza

To my fellow pizza lovers! I bring you a post after long break! This time from San Diego, CA.

Woodstock has some really tasty pizza, and a good deal on all you can eat by the slice!

But if you decide to go with a full pie then there are some arcade games you can play while you wait! (I had to play some pinball.)

As you can see they weren’t super busy. Works for us, we got our food faster! The restaurant is nice and clean and service is great! Now I didn’t have any wings but…

They look REALLY good! My brother said they had a really good flavor.

They have a variety of pizza to choose from for by the slice, and the options look good!

The one time I decided not to get pepperoni was at a pizza place that has all you can eat pepperoni pizza, but I couldn’t pass up on a carnitas pizza! They rolled the crust at the outside and it really added, they had sauce under that rolled part! Now I don’t know about y’all, but this place needs 5 stars.

See y’all next time on…

World of Zoo Alameda Zoo Park

World of Zoo Alameda Zoo Park

To my fellow animal lovers I bring to you a post from Alamogordo, NM.

In New Mexico you can find the oldest zoo in the southwestern United States. Alameda Zoo is a real nice little zoo where the animals are happy.

They have nice kangaroos. A big enclosure for them where they can run and jump all they want… just as long as they don’t get out! Kangaroos can jump at least three times there height, that’s a LOT higher than I can jump!

The mule deer were pretty happy too! Some of the zoo keepers drove by and the mule deer started begging for food! They know who feeds them! Mule deer antlers can grow up to a 1/4 of an inch a day. That’s pretty fast.

They have a Mexican grey wolf which just looks amazing!! This lone wolf is endangered. When their habitat is seen on a map, you can cover it with your pinky!

The antelope shared an enclosure with the peacocks. Did you know that antelopes are the second fastest land mammal?

We couldn’t get a very good pic of the emu, but one of them loved us. It kept following us around and yelled out when we left. I wanted to keep him but… he wouldn’t fit in the RV.

The coyote kept his distance. I think it was sleepy but who knows?

The porcupines were foraging for food, I do not want to fall onto one of those. That would be pretty painful!

In the monkey area, there was a baby monkey who followed us around. Luckily we didn’t get poop thrown at us! These are the same kind of monkey that’s on the movie Night At The Museum.

In the bird house there was this beautiful bird! I have no idea what kind of bird it is but just look at it! It looks kind of like a samurai bird to me. It walked up and all the quail ran away.

There were all kinds of birds in that bird house!

Some pretty ducks! This one looks pretty sleepy.

The ocelot wasn’t too happy. It looks like it was in an accident or something because it’s tail is smashed. A lot of the animals here are rescued.

The mountain lions were snoozing. Reminded me of our cats! They were having their siesta, but they kept a close eye on where everyone was. You could actually walk under their habitat! It was really neat!

There are a few bald eagles at this zoo. They were being all majestic.

A very sleepy owl.

These are some nice looking hawks to! They posed for us.

There’s a cute capybara. Did you know that capybara can hold their breath for five minuets! That’s at least four and a half minutes longer than I can hold my breath. We hadn’t seen a capybara in a zoo before so this was a first for us.

The tortoise was staying nice and warm under its light. It was pretty cold out the day we visited. This guy was HUGE!!

The lemur was being very active. Running up and down the branches. I don’t think he wanted his picture taken. I had to sneak up on him to get this shot!

“What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, man would die from a great loneliness of spirit. For whatever happens to the beast soon happens to the man.”  I liked this quote from Chief Seattle a lot so I decided to share it with you.

I’m giving the Alameda Zoo a 5 star review based on the happy and healthy animals we saw! This was just a small county park and was different from the usual zoos we go to, but I really enjoyed it just as much some of the larger, better funded zoos we’ve been to.

See y’all at the zoo!

World of Zoo the Living Desert Museum and Zoo

World of Zoo the Living Desert Museum and Zoo

To my fellow animal lovers, I bring you my second Zoo post, and this time it’s in Carlsbad, NM. Now, the Living Desert Museum and Zoo was really neat since all the animals were found within the state park. I’ve been to a LOT of zoos but I have never been to one that is also a state park… how cool is that?!

I liked the views from the zoo, it was pretty neat!

They’ve got two Mexican wolves, sadly they are really rare, but they look amazing!

They’ve got various birds like the golden eagle, which was watching us very closely.

The horned owls took quite a while to find and were very neat, can you find them?

The last bird I’m going to share is a blue jay, isn’t it so pretty?!

The prairie dogs were probably my favorite part of this zoo. It’s hilarious to see their little tails wag when they run! It looked like they just got some food too!

The javelina decided to say hello and came right up to the fence! It’s nose was working trying to sniff out some food.

The black bear they have looked very sleepy. Not only was the bear sleepy,

but the grey fox found a patch of sun and decided to take a nap too! It looked very comfortable!

We must have come during nap time because the porcupine was sleeping too!

Although the mountain lions were not happy with us making an appearance and kept going back where we couldn’t see them,

the bobcats decided to pose for us! It looks like it’s smiling at us! Neat!

Walking around you could find some pretty flowers, you could also find some gypsum! We’ve been to some sand dunes made of gypsum, White Sands NP was awesome.

There is a nocturnal area where you can see some rattlesnakes, it gave me the heebee jeebees. I don’t like danger noodles.

Then you walk around the corner and BAM! Giant bat head! Kinda startled me it’s hidden until you round the corner!

They have a plant area which when you go inside, prepare to take off your jacket because it is warm in there! That area has some plants from all over the world!

It had barrel cactus, some neat trees and pretty flowers.

The tortoise was a fair size and was on the move.

The bison were just lazin’ around like bison do.

The mule deer weren’t doing much either, but look at those antlers!

The entrance had a neat little museum with a touch table and the coolest part of the museum, in my opinion, was the fact that it shows you what the area looked like a really, really long time ago! The area was under a sea!

Based on the variety of animals and how the animals were all happy and healthy, I give the Living Desert museum and zoo a 5 star review.

I’ll see y’all at the zoo!!

Pizza Roundup Rod’s Pizza Cellar

Pizza Roundup Rod’s Pizza Cellar

To my fellow pizza lovers I bring a pizza post from Hot Springs, AR.

Rod’s Pizza Cellar is a really good pizza place! The décor reminded me of the typical pizza parlor with green and red checked décor.

Rod’s was made on July 4th and has been open for 42 years.

The pizza that started it all for Don’s Pizza Cellar is The Godfather pizza and it is really good. The Godfather pizza has Canadian bacon, cheese, sauce, Italian sausage and peppers. The cheese is on top of all of the toppings to help hold it all on the pizza.

The restaurant itself is pretty clean and the food is good, did I mention Don’s has a buffet? Well, it is a good buffet with a nice selection of all the pizzas Don’s Pizza Cellar has to offer.

Dessert was also offered with the buffet. My favorite was the strawberry shortcake!

You don’t like buffets? No problem! They also have a full menu you can order from!

Now with all that, I’m giving Rod’s Pizza Cellar a 5 star review.

See y’all next time on…

World of Zoo Memphis Zoo

World of Zoo Memphis Zoo

To my fellow pizza… wait, that’s a different post.

To my fellow animal lovers, I bring a post from Memphis, TN. It is really cool walking up to the zoo, looks all Egyptian and neat.

At the Memphis Zoo, they have all kinds of animals, like leopards,

red pandas,

birds, and

cheetahs.

All the animals at the Memphis Zoo seemed to be comfortable in their enclosures.

The zoo was nice and clean too.

They have loads of neat animals. We really liked the hippo habitat because you could get a look above,  ground level, and even below the water! Which means you’re for sure going to see the hippos!

There were several baby animals when we visited! I love how fuzzy the baby orangutan looks!

The exhibits looked nice and clean and the staff were all nice.

At the Memphis Zoo they have really impressive Lego sculptures! They’re HUGE!! Look how detailed the Lego sculptures are! Amazing! Can you imagine putting one of these together?

Each exhibit is decorated to match the cultural area of the world that the animals are found in.

The Memphis Zoo is one of the only four US Zoos to have the Giant Pandas. The Memphis Zoo was granted permission by the Chinese government to care for YaYa and LeLe in 2003.

I got to get really close to a giant panda, and that was awesome because giant pandas are my favorite animals!

The Memphis Zoo houses over 3,500 animals on 76 acres of land. That’s a lot of animals!! But don’t worry, you only have to walk about 2 miles to see all of the exhibits and there’s a tram tour you can take if it’s too hot or you’re hurt and can’t walk.

They also have, drum roll please, Polar Bears!! This polar bear wasn’t as active as the one in St. Louis but it was still cool.

The zoo opened in 1906 and is rated as one of the top 5 zoos in the U.S.A and I can see why. Healthy, happy animals with cool habitats make a great zoo.

Well I think that about sums it all up, I give Memphis Zoo a 5 star review.

See y’all at the Zoo!!

Pizza Roundup 5Points

Pizza Roundup 5Points

To my fellow pizza lovers, I bring to you a post from Nashville, TN.

In Nashville there is a good pizza place named 5Points, now this place has pizza by the slice (New York style) that is bigger than my head! Cut from a 20 inch pizza!

They also have delicious strombolies

and pizza, of course!

They have some pretty darn good garlic knots, not as good as Potsi though.

The décor is nice and the service is good, I didn’t need the bathroom so I couldn’t tell ya if it’s clean.

With all that I think that 5Points deserves 5stars.

See y’all next time on…

Pizza Street!!

That was a big slice a pizza!

Pizza Roundup Hometown Pizza

Pizza Roundup Hometown Pizza

To my fellow pizza lovers!

I bring a post of a bad pizza place. I am sorry to say that Hometown Pizza in Kentucky is not good.

The service was ok, the pizza was ok and the spaghetti was bad.

The décor was ok and the bathrooms were at least clean.

With all that I think a 3 star review is in order.

We felt kind of disappointed with the pizza here so we got Little Caesars… twice… and it was so much better.

See y’all next time on…

Pizza Street!

I do like some crazy bread and crazy sauce… so good!

Pizza Roundup Klavon’s

Pizza Roundup Klavon’s

To my fellow pizza lovers, I bring to you a new pizza post, this time Jackson, MI.

Now from this post you will find out that not only does Klavon’s have big pizzas, they’re also fancy!

The menu is on a tablet which is awesome and all the booths have their own TV!

Klavon’s has some tasty Chicago style pizza (which is now my second favorite style) and other styles, but we got Chicago style.

On their menu they have some soup, salads, burgers, sandwiches, calzones and pizza! Lots to choose from!

The bathrooms are cool and the décor is nice.

They have a giant baseball bat and a metal pizza piece! Cool!

The service was nice and the food is awesome.

I’ll give Klavon’s a 5 star review between good food and service to the fanciness and décor.

See y’all next time on…

Pizza Street!!

Pizza Roundup Moosejaw

Pizza Roundup Moosejaw

To my fellow pizza lovers, I bring a post from Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

Moosejaw is an ok pizza place with good service, fun décor, clean bathrooms, and greasy, under cooked pizza.

I am sad to say that because the service and décor were really good.

But we ordered a thick crust and got a thin and the thick crust we did get wasn’t cooked through all the way.

The thin crust pizza (that was supposed to be thick crust) was so greasy! The grease made the crust super soggy and it was hard to eat.

There isn’t much else to say about it. The pretzel bites were good especially with the ranch.

MooseJaw gets a star for the fun décor, a star for the great service and half a star for the food. I give MooseJaw a 2.5 star review.

See you all next time on…
